Docent Tour: "Modern Intruders: Contemporary Meets Classical Sculpture"
Auguste Rodin, Alexis Rudier Fondeur (maker), "The Three Shades", ca. 1898. Cast bronze. Collection of the City and County of San Francisco, Gift of the Raphael Weill Memorial Committee L95.74
In celebrating the centenary of French sculptor Auguste Rodin, (1840-1917), this tour will look at his works in the Legion of Honor as juxtaposed with sculptures created by two 21st century artists, Urs Fischer (b. 1973) and Sarah Lucas (b. 1962). The works will be placed in such proximity as to encourage comparisons and observations of differences and similarities in subjects, materials, and styles. Such observations will enhance familiarity with contemporary sculptures and discussions of each artist's respective modernity in response to their time.
Free after general admission. No reservations.
