Celebrate Lucia Day at the Legion, a holiday that is typically celebrated on December 13 and is one of Sweden’s foremost cultural traditions.
Today Lucia is celebrated with processions of girls and boys, all clad in white gowns and carrying lit candles, led by one girl dressed as St. Lucia. The Lucia procession visits establishments, churches, schools, and homes early in the morning to sing Lucia songs (Lussa). The contrast of darkness and light, cold and warmth make a clear reference to life in the old peasant communities, on what is supposed to be the longest night of the year. Join us at the Legion of Honor on December 14 and be delighted to the sounds of children singing traditional songs celebrating Santa Lucia.
Art making activities for families: Make your own Woven Christmas Basket (Flãtade Julgranskorgar). In addition, visitors are welcome to make their own Dala Horse, the traditional wooden horses of Sweden.
