Members-Only Preview Hours: “Gods in Color: Polychromy in the Ancient World”
This event is expired.
Reconstruction of a lion from Loutraki, 2005/2012. Original ca. 550 BC. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, Denmark. Plaster cast, natural pigments in egg tempera. Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung (Polychromy Research Project), Frankfurt am Main
Join us for a members-only preview of Gods in Color: Polychromy in the Ancient World. You’ll enjoy an astonishing look at Classical sculpture in their original vibrant colors, questioning the perception of an all-white "classical" ideal. Ancient sculpture and architecture from Greece and Rome will be revealed as intended—garishly colorful, richly ornamented, and full of life—along with original sculpture from the Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
Visiting with little ones? Be sure to stop by the activity station with fun arts and crafts for kids.
