Free Saturday classes offered at the de Young feature Doing and Viewing Art activities designed for children ages 4 through 12. Facilitated family tours of permanent collections and current exhibitions are followed by studio workshops taught by professional artist-teachers. Programs are held most Saturdays—please check the online calendar to confirm.
At the de Young, classes explore a variety of themes based on the permanent collections and exhibitions, including Get Crafty with Your Art: The Arts and Crafts Movement, Contain Your Enthusiasm: Safe Havens for Your Treasures, and Miniature Marvels. Programs from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. are open to the public. Members only programs are from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday classes are free after museum admission; a special exhibition surcharge may apply for adults to accompany the tours of certain sessions.
Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Sign in 15 minutes before the start of class. Programs begin promptly—no late admittance.
Doing and Viewing Art is made possible with support from the Belvedere-Tiburon Auxiliary of the Fine Arts Museums and the de Youngsters families.
