Docent Lecture: Degas, the Reluctant Impressionist, Rita Dunlay

Edgar Degas, "Musicians in the Orchestra (Portrait of Desire Dihau)," ca. 1870

Edgar Degas, Musicians in the Orchestra (Portrait of Desire Dihau), ca. 1870. Oil on canvas. Museum purchase, Mildred Anna Williams Collection

This event is expired.

Although he was an active participant in seven of the eight Impressionist group exhibitions, Edgar Degas did not consider himself an Impressionist. His lifelong interest in line and the figure set him on a fundamentally different path. This talk looks at his innovative use of both throughout his career.
