How do I become a volunteer at the Fine Arts Museums?
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to fill out an application. You will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator for an interview as volunteer openings arise.
Where are the museums located?
Where can I put my belongings while I’m working my volunteer shifts?
Volunteers are welcome to check their items at Parcel Check at the beginning of their shift.
Do I have to be a certain age to be able to volunteer?
You must be at least 17 years old in order to volunteer at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
Is a background in art history or fine arts required in order to volunteer?
While we encourage volunteers to have an interest in art and art history, extensive academic or museum-related experience is not necessary for most of our volunteer positions.
What type of time commitment should I expect as a volunteer?
Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of two shifts per month for at least six consecutive months. There are two shifts per day, running from 9 am–1:15 pm and 1–5:15 pm. The museums are both closed to the public on Mondays, with the exception of scheduled Access Days.
