Teens Take Action!
The museum is a place to see how art relates to current issues. Each year, the Teen Advisory Board hosts an annual event just for teens called Teens Take Action! The event is a call for future liberation through identity, self-expression, and activism. Join us for performances led by local youth organizations, gallery activities, music, collective art making, and valuable resources suggesting ways to take action! This event is for high school students and free for teens with valid high school ID. #TeensTakeAction
Beyond the Paint Podcast
The Teen Advisory Board wrote and produced a podcast inspired by the Contemporary Muslim Fashions exhibition at the de Young. The podcast explores themes of modest fashion, individual expression, social media, and global exchange.
Teen Programs collaborated with Youth Radio during Contemporary Muslim Fashions to create a teen tour and to interview Hoda Katebi—blogger, photographer, and social-media influencer—who was featured in the exhibition.
Teen Advisory Board
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is composed of 10 San Francisco Bay Area high school teens enrolled in public, private, and home-school programs. Together they plan, host, and promote teen events and digital content. TAB Members are paid minimum wage for their work and meet on Friday afternoons 10 months out of the year. For more information, check this webpage in spring 2019.
